Middlemount

Middlemount is a complete suburb nestled in the Brigalow country of Central Queensland.  A comfortable 1˝ hours drive from Emerald and 3 hours from Rockhampton and Mackay, Middlemount offers the traveller a home away from home.

Summer temperatures are very warm and swimming at the Olympic size pool is a favourite past time.

During the cooler months Middlemount comes alive with annual events.  Starting with the Labour Day Picnic held on the first Sunday in May and continuing through to Race Day on the third Saturday in August and to the Police Charity Golf Day in October.

Middlemount is only 20 years old and is a purpose-built coal mining town.  The town services Capcoal’s Central Colliery, Southern Colliery and Open Cut, and Foxleigh’s Open Cut.

The community enjoys schooling from kindergarten to grade 12, a medical centre, a hotel/motel, a shopping centre, a caravan park, many well equipped parks, restaurants, golf course and other great sporting facilities.

Our ‘Jewel in the Crown’ – Blue Mountain Park – provides free barbecue facilities and panoramic views of the surrounding areas.  Many evenings there are wallabies feeding in the park and the bird life is spectacular, including galahs, kookaburras, blue mountain parrots and rainbow lorikeets.  Middlemount has many other parks and all are equipped for fun for the younger people.

Need time away from the kitchen?  There are different styles of eateries available in Middlemount.  At the Golf Club there is a very amenable Chinese Restaurant which is open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.  On Friday nights the Bowls Club offers a bistro style menu at very reasonable prices.

The Oasis Bistro provides different menus on different nights and has a very amiable atmosphere.  The local Hotel has a dining room with an extensive a la carte menu.  They also provide take away meals on Friday nights.  Take aways are available from the Roadhouse, Chino & Burger Bar, the Pizza Shop or the Sports Café located at the Middlemount Multi-sports Centre.

Local Bundoora Dam is stocked with a variety of fish to please the angler.  The fishing is also worthwhile at the Isaacs, Mackenzie and Connors Rivers - all within one hours travelling time.

The Middlemount Golf Course is an oasis for golfers who battle to get time on city courses.  The local course has 9 holes and the greens are glorious.  Relax at the Club House after the game!

For those who enjoy the pokies you have a choice of the Golf Club, the Bowls Club or the Hotel.

The local rural industry incorporates grazing and crop production.  In season, you can see spectacular sunflower fields and flowing sorghum paddocks.
